Why PRAI Was Created
PRAI was founded in response to a clear and urgent need: the systems designed to support individuals affected by human trafficking, exploitation, and trauma were fragmented, inconsistent, and often inaccessible to those who needed them most.
Crisis intervention, legal advocacy, recovery services, education, research, prevention, and long-term reintegration existed in silos — each operating independently, with little coordination and significant gaps between them. Survivors were falling through the cracks of a system that was never designed with their full journey in mind.
The Phoenix Recovery and Advocacy Institute was created to bridge those gaps. By bringing together advocacy, education, research, prevention, and collaborative partnerships under one mission-driven organization, PRAI works to create the coordinated, survivor-centered solutions that have long been missing.
Our name reflects our purpose. The phoenix — a symbol of resilience, renewal, and rising from adversity — represents the strength of every individual we serve and the transformative potential of compassionate, evidence-informed support.
"To support recovery, advocacy, education, research, and prevention initiatives that empower individuals affected by human trafficking, exploitation, trauma, and related forms of victimization while promoting dignity, resilience, and long-term wellbeing through trauma-informed and survivor-centered practices."
"A future where every individual affected by exploitation or trauma has access to meaningful support, informed advocacy, opportunities for recovery, and pathways toward long-term stability and success."
PRAI is currently in its foundational pilot phase, focused on building the infrastructure, partnerships, and capacity needed to deliver lasting impact.
