Accessibility Statement

Last updated: June 10, 2026

The Phoenix Recovery and Advocacy Institute (PRAI) is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone — including individuals with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor disabilities. Accessibility is not an afterthought for us; it is a reflection of our core values of dignity, inclusion, and equitable access to information and support.

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. WCAG defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. This site is currently in active development and we are working toward full conformance.

As PRAI is in its pilot phase, some areas of the site may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We are actively working to identify and address any gaps. If you encounter a barrier, please let us know — your feedback directly informs our improvements.

Our Accessibility Commitments

Our approach to accessibility is guided by the four WCAG principles:

Perceivable

We provide text alternatives for non-text content, captions and alternatives for multimedia, and ensure content can be presented in different ways without losing meaning.

Operable

All functionality is accessible via keyboard. We provide sufficient time to read and use content, avoid content that could cause seizures, and help users navigate and find content.

Understandable

We make text readable and understandable, ensure content appears and operates in predictable ways, and help users avoid and correct mistakes.

Robust

Content is compatible with current and future assistive technologies, including screen readers, voice recognition software, and keyboard-only navigation.

Technical Measures We Have Taken

The following measures have been implemented across this website to support accessibility:

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy on every page
  • Sufficient colour contrast ratios meeting WCAG 2.1 AA standards
  • Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images
  • Keyboard-navigable interactive elements with visible focus indicators
  • ARIA labels on complex interactive components
  • Form inputs associated with descriptive labels
  • Responsive design that adapts to all screen sizes and zoom levels
  • No content that flashes more than three times per second
  • Skip-to-content navigation for keyboard and screen reader users
  • Plain language used throughout to support cognitive accessibility

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some content may not yet meet all WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. Known areas we are actively working to improve include:

  • Some third-party embedded content may not fully meet accessibility standards
  • PDF documents and downloadable files are not yet available in accessible formats
  • Video content does not yet include closed captions or audio descriptions

We are committed to addressing these limitations as the organization grows and resources allow.

Feedback and Contact

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you experience any barriers, have difficulty accessing any content, or require information in an alternative format, please contact us. We take all accessibility concerns seriously and aim to respond within 5 business days.
