Survivor-Centered Approach

Our Nine Service Areas

How We Serve Communities

Each service area is designed to address a critical dimension of the survivor journey — from immediate crisis support through long-term recovery, prevention, and systemic change.

01

Survivor Advocacy

Walking alongside survivors every step of the way.

PRAI provides direct, individualized advocacy to survivors navigating complex systems of care, legal processes, and institutional barriers. Our advocates work alongside individuals to ensure their voices are heard, their rights are upheld, and their needs are met with dignity and respect.

Key Activities

  • One-on-one advocacy support
  • System navigation assistance
  • Rights-based advocacy
  • Crisis support and safety planning
  • Referrals to specialized services
  • Long-term recovery accompaniment
03

Community Education

Building awareness, knowledge, and community capacity.

Effective prevention and response begins with informed communities. PRAI delivers evidence-based educational programs that raise awareness about human trafficking, exploitation, and trauma — building the knowledge and skills communities need to recognize, respond to, and prevent victimization.

Key Activities

  • School and youth education programs
  • Community awareness workshops
  • Professional development sessions
  • Public awareness campaigns
  • Educational resource development
  • Cultural and community-specific programming
04

Prevention Initiatives

Addressing root causes before harm occurs.

Prevention is at the heart of PRAI's mission. We develop and deliver targeted prevention strategies that address the root causes of vulnerability, reduce risk factors, and build protective factors across communities — with a particular focus on populations most at risk.

Key Activities

  • Risk factor identification and reduction
  • Protective factor development
  • Early intervention programs
  • Vulnerability mapping and analysis
  • Community resilience building
  • Prevention program evaluation

Research & Intelligence

Evidence-informed. Data-driven. Community-focused.

PRAI's Research & Intelligence function drives evidence-informed decision making across all our programs and advocacy work. Through community-based research, trend analysis, and public policy recommendations, we translate data into action — informing educational resources, strengthening advocacy positions, and contributing to systemic improvements.

Key Activities

  • Community-based research projects
  • Trend analysis and reporting
  • Public policy recommendations
  • Needs assessments and gap analysis
  • Prevention strategy development
  • Data-driven advocacy and communications
06

Professional Training

Building capacity across sectors and systems.

Effective responses to exploitation and trauma require skilled, informed professionals across many sectors. PRAI delivers specialized training programs for service providers, law enforcement, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders — building the capacity needed for coordinated, trauma-informed responses.

Key Activities

  • Trauma-informed practice training
  • Identification and response training
  • Sector-specific professional development
  • Train-the-trainer programs
  • Certification and continuing education
  • Customized organizational training
07

Systems Advocacy

Driving policy reform and systemic change.

Individual support is essential — but lasting change requires transforming the systems that create and perpetuate vulnerability. PRAI engages with government, institutional partners, and policy makers to drive legislative reform, improve systemic responses, and ensure that the voices of survivors inform policy at every level.

Key Activities

  • Government relations and engagement
  • Policy development and recommendations
  • Legislative advocacy and reform
  • Systemic gap identification
  • Survivor voice integration in policy
  • Coalition building and coordination
08

Strategic Partnerships

Stronger together — building coordinated networks of care.

No single organization can address the complexity of exploitation and trauma alone. PRAI cultivates meaningful strategic partnerships with organizations across sectors — social services, healthcare, legal, government, education, and community — to create coordinated, survivor-centered service networks that are greater than the sum of their parts.

Key Activities

  • Cross-sector partnership development
  • Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs)
  • Referral network coordination
  • Joint program development
  • Shared learning and best practices
  • National and provincial network building
09

Community Collaboration

Co-creating solutions with the communities we serve.

Sustainable, effective solutions must be grounded in the communities they serve. PRAI works alongside communities — including Indigenous communities, newcomer populations, and other marginalized groups — to co-develop responses that are culturally responsive, locally grounded, and sustainably impactful.

Key Activities

  • Community-led program design
  • Cultural responsiveness and humility
  • Indigenous community engagement
  • Newcomer and refugee support
  • Community advisory structures
  • Grassroots partnership development

Our services continue to expand as organizational capacity grows during our pilot phase.

Research & Intelligence

Research as a Tool for Justice

At PRAI, research is not an academic exercise — it is a tool for justice. Our Research & Intelligence function is embedded across all our programs, ensuring that every initiative is grounded in evidence, responsive to community needs, and capable of demonstrating measurable impact.

We conduct and synthesize research to identify trends, understand community needs, and develop targeted prevention and advocacy strategies. Our research informs educational resources, strengthens advocacy positions, and contributes to systemic improvements that protect vulnerable individuals and prevent exploitation.

As PRAI grows, we are committed to establishing formal research partnerships with academic institutions, government agencies, and community organizations — building a robust evidence base that positions PRAI as a national leader in knowledge generation and translation.

Where We Are Now

Pilot Phase

PRAI is currently in its foundational pilot phase — a critical period of organizational development focused on building the infrastructure, partnerships, and capacity needed to deliver lasting, scalable impact.

During this phase, PRAI is establishing the governance systems, operational frameworks, and strategic relationships that will underpin all future programming. We are conducting foundational research, supporting early advocacy initiatives, and demonstrating measurable community impact that will attract the resources needed for full-scale service delivery.

The pilot phase is not a limitation — it is an investment in doing this work right. By building strong foundations now, PRAI will be positioned to deliver comprehensive, high-quality programs that create genuine, lasting change.

Pilot Phase Activities
  • Establishing foundational governance and corporate infrastructure
  • Building strategic partnerships across sectors and regions
  • Conducting initial community needs assessments
  • Developing operational frameworks, policies, and procedures
  • Supporting early advocacy and education initiatives
  • Recruiting Board of Directors and advisory members
  • Establishing research partnerships with academic institutions
  • Developing organizational capacity for service delivery
